Biography and Actuality
Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela was born in Mvezo, South Africa the 18th of April of 1918 and was raised with two sisters. Although his parents were illiterate he went to Methodist school at the age of seven. He was baptized Methodist and his teacher gave him the name of “Nelson”. At the age of 16 he made the circumcision ritual where he and other teenagers turned from boys to men and he was given the name of “Dalibunga”. Later he went to the Fort Hare University and the University Witwatersrand where he studied Law. He was living in Johannesburg where he joined the ANC (African National Congress) and a foundation member of the Youth League. Working was a lawyer he was arrested because of several traitor activities and was prosecuted in the Treason Trial where he was found innocent. Later he was arrested of sabotage and conspiracy to overthrow the government serving in prison 27 years.
He was in Robben Island and later in Pollsmoor Prison and Victor Verster Prison. An international organization claimed for his release in 1990. After it he became president of the ANC where he published his autobiography and talked with President FW de Klerk and convinced him to make multiracial elections in 1994 where he won with the ANC. He created a lot of organizations like the Government of National Unity to avoid tensions, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission to investigate the abuses to the members of the country and make justice so human rights would be obeyed. Mandela changed the constitution making a new one making land reforms, abolishing poverty and expanding health services. He acted as a mediator between tension of Libya and the United Kingdom. Although he was denounced of terrorism and as a pacific sympathizer he won 250 awards including 1993 Nobel Peace Prize, Soviet Order of Lenin and The Presidential Medal of Freedom.
Actually Nelson Mandela interned in the hospital in a very critical position and condition. The illness he is facing is pneumonia and it can be very problematic and may come with severe consequences. His family and the entire world including really important presidents like Obama are praying for him to recover because he is a worldwide hero and soon or later he will become a legend among people like Gandhi or Albert Einstein.
